Let’s Do 52 – Week 7

I was determined to not take pictures of the kids this week. The theme was “Pretty Ugly (beauty in the unexpected)”. One Saturday I was over at my parents’ house and spotted my mom’s air plants. They are weird little things. Despite me fighting my camera in macro mode, I managed to get one shot I really liked, and once editing I liked it even more. It looks like a green octopus.

This week’s theme was Topsy Turvy (Chaos), and I entered mine late. It was the first week with Andrew back to work, and me at home alone with two munchkins. On a whim, I caught this shot of Michael and used it for the theme because he is in desperate need a haircut. It’s cute.

Week Five’s theme was “Self-Portrait with Loved Ones”. I thought it would be fun to do an outside photo shoot with the kids, but not so much. This was the only picture that came out, and right after this Michael flipped out of Andrew’s arms and landed on the ground on his back. That was the end of our outdoor fun.

Later, I tried another approach – taking pictures on our king sized bed. It’s nice and soft. I was particularly fond of this one, so I entered it as well. It’s just of me and the Boy, though.

This week’s theme was “Unexpected Perspective” or “Sparkle”. Seeing as I can’t manage to take pictures of anything other than my kids, this one features…my kids. The youngest one, that is.

This set turned out quite nice even though I rushed through it because Maddie wasn’t in the best of moods. Michael, meanwhile, was distracted by Blue’s Clues so I had no interference from him. I hope to get some more of these edited and up soon. So…Unexpected Perspective. Kind of a weird shot, but I like it.

Let’s Do 52 – Week 3

Week Three’s themes were “White Space (Negative Space)” or “Everyday Tools”. I took a picture of…you guessed it! One of my kids!

Well, Maddie hadn’t had her turn to shine yet, so I did her first vintage photo shoot. It went really well and I can’t believe I haven’t posted the rest of the pictures here yet. Give me a minute. Anyway, on to my “White Space” entry starring my little girl.

And here she is! My beautiful baby girl!

As expected, I got behind on my photo blogging due to the new baby. What a surprise.

So, here’s Week Two’s entry for the Let’s Do 52 challenge. The theme was “Responsibility” or “Open”. I chose “Open” but the other one would work too since it’s of my boy…again.

Yesterday, I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl with a head full of thick reddish-blond hair. Her labor was amazing and we’re both doing so well that we’ll probably get to go home from the hospital today. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the card reader to work with my husband’s computer so we’ll have more pictures up later, but here’s a preview of her.

Madelynne Rose was born on January 9th, 2012 at 10:29 am. She weighed 8lbs. 10 oz. and was 21 inches long.

Let’s Do 52 – Week 1

The amazing photography blog at Paint the Moon Photography is hosting a kind of photography challenge for the year 2012. Every week, another theme is posted to inspire creativity among photographers, and the results are up on the Flickr group. Others will probably be hosting their images elsewhere, and Paint the Moon is also featuring photos using their action sets.

If you’re unfamiliar with Paint the Moon, I suggest you go check it out. Annie is the heart and soul behind it, and her photography is simply stunning. She also has a personal “mommy” blog with beautiful insights about her family and the way they live. And last but not least, her photo actions are amazing. Some of the most creative and downright useful actions I’ve ever dealt with – they will immediately become your favorites when edited your own photos.

I’ve chosen to do this challenge because I hope it will help strengthen my abilities as a photographer in the upcoming year as I’ve primarily fallen completely out of touch with everything but taking pictures of my little boy. Not saying that this is going to help curb that urge, plus I’ve got a little girl coming soon (as in very soon) who will most likely be featured as well. It’s just been a long time since I’ve felt like I’ve really done anything artistic. I know that’s absurd; I do artistic things all the time, I just have this weird thing about my “fine” art and my “everything else” art.

I’ll be posting my images on the Flickr group, but also here as I go.

Week one’s theme was “Sharing” or “All Natural”. I chose the Sharing theme because I found this picture I took of Savannah and Michael sharing Grandma and her Smartphone full of adorable videos. I cropped quite a bit out of the original image and it was never as sharp as I liked, but I found it heartwarming regardless. I edited it with Paint the Moon’s “Macchiato” and “Heaven Shines Down” actions from the Coffee House set.

Comma the Llama

Oh, Comma the Llama – how you infuriated me so. No other creature underwent such changes during the building process.

At first, it was an elephant. Failing that, I decided to attempt a giraffe. When that didn’t work out either, I decided the shape was rather llama like, so I went with that. I wish that wasn’t a true story…

So…Comma the Llama, made from spotted knee socks where the spots were only on the calf section. It made for some interesting patterns on the creature, I think.

Comma has flower buttons for eyes and hand-embroidered nostril, ear, and heart on the butt details.

And she also looks like Nessie from this angle…

She was a gift for my niece Charlotte, and I pretty much finished her up the day she was given away. Working down to the wire on this one.

So that’s the end of my Christmas Whimsykins. Hopefully the next ones will be commissioned or for sale. Of course, all is depending on this little bun in the oven.
